Play the Old CourseOld Course Ballot
One of the most exciting opportunities at our junior golf camp in St Andrews is entering the Old Course ballot for a chance to play the world’s most famous golf course. The Old Course is a bucket-list experience for golfers everywhere. Walking over the Swilcan Bridge and teeing it up where Open Champions have played is something juniors never forget.
When Juniors Get A Tee Time
A Very Special Day to Remember
Playing the Old Course is a once-in-a-lifetime dream for many golfers. Successful juniors experience the history and challenge of golf’s most iconic course and take photos on the Swilcan Bridge to capture the memory.
If the Ballot Isn't Successful
The ballot is random, so we cannot guarantee every junior will play. However, our schedule includes five rounds on other championship courses such as the Jubilee, Castle Course, Dumbarnie Links, and The Duke’s, ensuring a full week of world-class golf.
Tips for Better Old Course Ballot Chances
- Two-week bookings increase the number of days we can enter the ballot
- Groups of 2 or 3 players often have better success than singles
How the Old Course Ballot works
The Daily Ballot Explained
- Minimum of two players required – names, home clubs, and handicaps must be provided.
- Single players can enter the Singles Daily Draw between 9:00am–5:00pm the day before play at The Old Pavilion or Links Clubhouse for any last-minute tee times.
- Handicap requirements: Official handicap card/certificate must be shown before play (maximum handicap 36 for men and ladies). Letters from Club Professionals are not accepted.
- Deadline: Ballot closes at 2:00pm two days before the desired tee date.
- When to enter: Entries can be made on the day the ballot is drawn or the day before.
- No Friday ballot: The Old Course is closed on Sundays, so no ballot runs on Fridays.
- Best chance: Being available to play at any time of day improves success odds.
- How to enter: Online, by phone (+44 (0)1334 466666), or in person at The Old Pavilion or a clubhouse.
Playing the Old Course
Important Information
Playing the Old Course is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we do everything we can to help juniors take part. Please note:
- Green fee not included: Payment is made directly to St Andrews Links if a tee time is secured.
- Programme impact: Playing means missing part of that day’s coaching or activities. We adjust where possible.
- Ballot support: We enter juniors into the ballot and share results and tee times.
- Unaccompanied play: Staff do not walk the Old Course with juniors. Parents are welcome to join, and we can help arrange this.
- Transport: We assist with transfers to make the day run smoothly.
We highly encourage juniors to play if successful in the ballot – it’s an unforgettable highlight of their time in St Andrews!
